Session 1:
Communication Design
Session 1:
The very first lesson that i learnt was to never ever use comic sans! i soon realised that Helvetica will become my best friend on this course.
During this session we were introduced to the course brief and what we were going to be doing throughout the term. The list of things that we have to create by the end of the term is...
We were introduced to InDesign and taught the basics.I personally found using InDesign a lot easier than i expected and quickly got to grips with how to use it. we got a head start on our homework for that week which was to create an InDesign document which presents poster work that we find inspirational. The layout and general presentation should complement the aesthetics of the inspirational work featured.
Week Ones Assignment:
doing the homework i started off by searching for artists and grahic designers that i found inspirational and may inspire my work later on in the course. having previously done a photography that involved practical & digital experiments i was familiar with the work of Hattie Stewart and thought that her work would provide an interesting feature in my homework. I find Hattie Stewarts work particularly fascinating.

I Love her use of colour within graphic design. i find that she often uses contrasting colours that provide a jarring and vibrant image. She uses doodles to create abstract shapes that envelope the images that have usually been taken from a magazine cover. she introduces some interesting and often controversial messages through her doodles.
Experiment One:
When creating my own poster i decided to fill hand drawn shapes with her work. i used multiple bright and vibrant colours to enhance the aestethics if hattie stewarts work. the doodles and shapes i created were done to pay homage to stewarts style of design.
even though i had heard of and researched artists like David Carson i wasnt inspired for this task to use his work so i searched for more artists online. i liked the look of The Face Magazine & I-D magazine and how the both have similar aesthetics yet are quite different.

Experiment Two:
...
i found it interesting noticing trends, patterns and a recurring style when it comes to magazine cover. they are very much about the identity of the magazine etc.
Homework:
9 Squares Task
While i did respond to the homework i lost the original jpeg that i created so in my spare time i created and experimented with shapes and colour.
